ARTIST STATEMENT AS A TEACHER
Through my art I see and understand the world around me and feel closer to understanding the meaning of life. For me the meaning of life is to acquire knowledge about what it means to be human and live in today’s world. As a teaching artist I lead students to a deeper understanding of their place in the world.
In my practice, I engage in recording observations of my surroundings, through journaling, a part of my idea development process, to inform my drawings and paintings. I am inspired by every day encounters with nature and interactions with the human condition.
Through my art, I share my observations of the world with young artists which leads them to see the creative possibilities in making new connections to their environment, and to develop their artistic skills.
By demonstrating my approach to drawing and painting, I am able to inspire students to embark on their own creative journey and, at the same time bring out their confidence in their artistic abilities.

SPRING 2014 ADULT PAINTING WORKSHOP June 23 and 24
http://www.greatfallsart.org/adult-workshops-summer/
All Levels Welcome, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced
"Alla Prima" means 'at first hand' in Italian. It means that the painting will be completed in one session. It also means that the painting will be paintied wet into wet. We will be painting from individually lit small still lifes of roses, daisies, lillies and props like bottles, dishes, and fruits on colorful drapery. You may bring your own props or work from the ones I set up. Our goal, then, is to go through three important steps in the process of drawing and painting the flowers in full lusciuos, vibrant color, in one session. Of course you may take photographs and finish the painting at your liesure, but the objective is to get as close to finished as possible in one day. Bring your lunch. We have coffe, tea and a microwave.
Supply List, including small canvases emailed upon registration

THE BARGUE DRAWING COURSE WORKSHOP
Now on the fourth Sunday of each month, private lessons Fall 2014
We meet once a month for a two hour lesson. Work at your own pace and bring the finished drawings in for a critique. Charles Bargue designed this drawing course for beginner students nearly 100 years ago. He created 60 plates of the features of the human face, arms, legs, the foot, the hand and full figure studies meant to be copied from his drawings. In copying his drawings we can learn a clear, effective method. We learn a process that takes us from con- struction lines to the envelope, from the block-in to the finishing contour lines and modeling of the form, preparing the student to work from life in the classical approach. All of the drawings will be done on paper in charcoal from enlarged reproductions. Each student receives a disc with the images on it.
First Sunday every Month starting September 7th, ends June 2014
