Still Life With Velazquez, or On Earth As It Is In Heaven
In the painting of âHeavenâ, a series I created which include a hand painted copy of a masterpiece of art history, Diego Velazquez "Coronation of The Virgin", 1641-1644,
a statuette of Our Lady of The Immaculate Heart partially obscures a clock. Her right-hand holds her heart out as her left-hand gestures toward a rosary. The rosary climbs its way over a Bible, where it meets a goblet spilling grapes, an invention signifying Culture and Grace. We follow the goblet upwards to a curled color xerox reproduction of Velasquezâ âCoronation of The Virginâ, signifying heaven.
